From Tawanda Mangoma in Chiredzi
The Chiredzi Rural District Council is owed nearly $1 million by various entities and this is hindering the completion of most budgeted programmes. Addressing a full council meeting recently, Chiredzi RDC finance committee chairman Councillor Murawu Munyengeri said council had collected only 57 percent of their $3,2 million budget for this year.

“The 2017 Chiredzi Rural District Council’s cash budget of $3 252 698 was anchored on domestic rates and did not include Government grants,” he said.

Cllr Munyengeri said council had collected $1 854 634,11 from its domestic revenue sources for the period January 1 to October 10, 2017. He said about $275 146 was received as Government grants disbursements.

Cllr Munyengeri said despite the low revenue collections, they had no salary arrears with their employees.

“May I highlight to you that the council is owed $920 905,23 by corporate companies, Government departments, business community, council schools, property rentals, farmers, ratepayers, safari operators and Buffalo Range Housing Scheme stands beneficiaries,” he said.
