Sungura musician Peter Moyo’s camp is shaking following his decision to hire two managers, The Herald Entertainment has learnt. According to sources, the managers’ tug-of-war has resulted in the cancellation of gigs by the musician.

Two weeks ago he cancelled a gig in Gweru and last week he could not make it to Shurugwi for another show. A source close to the camp said the two managers – Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika and Sukol Dube – were fighting for control.

“Things were settled with Suko before he appointed Shiga as manager. Now the two are in a tug-of-war as they are organising shows without proper communication,” the source revealed.

The insider added that the two appear to always have conflicts over venues.

“The issue of venues is a problem to the two and they always clash,” he said.

He said the confusion is arising from a poor administrative decision by “Young Igwe”, as Peter Moyo has been named after his late father Tongai Moyo’s self-styled nickname “Igwe” which means chief in one of the Nigerian languages.

The Shurugwi event organiser, who only identified himself as Vasco, said they had suffered a big loss following the musician’s no-show.

“We had put adverts up for the show and when he did not show up, it really messed up the night for us and the fans,” he said.

Moyo, however, dismissed the inference that the struggle of power between the two managers could be affecting his band’s operations.

“These guys know their duties. One is responsible for shows and the other one is responsible for the welfare of the band. So they know their mandate,” he said.

But pressed further, Moyo revealed that both managers are involved in booking performances for the band although he insisted that the system in place would ensure that the two did not interfere with each other.

“Sukol has two weeks of every month and the same to Shiga and they have their contacts. My father had three managers – Sukol, Knowledge Chosa and Shiga Shiga – so there is nothing wrong in me having the two as managers,” he said.

The musician blasted the Shurugwi promoter saying the latter rushed to publicise the show without first ironing out contractual issues.

“We had not agreed but they rushed to have the show advertised. However, we came to agree that the show will be held on a later date this month,” he said.

The musician has not been attracting crowds at his shows of late. He has since resorted to joint shows with Suluman Chimbetu. Fans are waiting for the new album he promised to release on his birthday in August.
