The late Tongai Moyo

The Tongai Moyo commemoration show to honour the late musician would be a platform for upcoming artistes to showcase their talents, organisers have said. Moyo died on October 15 in 2011 and this year’s commemorations will start in Kwekwe on Friday and end in Harare Gardens on Sunday. This year the gig will see the son of the late musician Peter Moyo joining hands with artistes like Alick Macheso, Slizer, Charma Girl, Somandla Ndebele, Tocky Vibez, First Farai, and Extra Kwazvose in Kwekwe on Friday, Kadoma pn Saturday and Harare Gardens on Sunday.

In an interview the Young Igwe, as Peter is popularly known, said they have called upon upcoming artistes to come and show people their talent at the event.
“We have called upon upcoming artistes to come and perform at the event so that they can show music fans, promoters and fellow musicians their capacity,” he said.
Irene Tigere, a gospel musician who was inspired by Moyo, was ecstatic about the call to perform at the event.

“The call has come on the right time because I was looking forward to perform alongside Peter because his father inspired me a lot to be a musician,” she said.
She will be sampling songs from her new release, “Nyasha”.

“When I performed in Kwekwe in 2010 at a church conference Tongai came and he told me that the industry needed courage and charisma so my wish was to perform alongside his son,” she said.

Her album has eight-tracks namely “Mwari Uyu”, “Pedzisai”, “Naye Jesu”, “Nhangemutange”, “Renewed Strength”, “Ndatendeuka Jehova” and “Ndatenda”.
The musician, who was born in Gutu, said this is an opportunity he would not want to miss in her life.

“We are working hard to make sure our performance will convince Zimbabweans that there is talent out there,” she said.
