CMED boss’ hearing starts

Herald Reporter
The disciplinary hearing of suspended CMED (Pvt) Ltd fuels manager, Mr Brian Manjengwa, who faces charges of theft and contravening the firm’s code of conduct, started yesterday.
Mr Manjengwa is also accused of disobeying lawful instructions from his employer, which resulted in the company losing US$2,7 million in a fuel scandal.
Mr Manjengwa appeared before former High Court judge and diplomat Professor Simbi Mubako (chairperson), labour consultant Mr Patrick Chingoka and arbitrator and labour law expert Mr Rodgers Matsikidze, who are presiding over the case.

Mr Manjengwa, who is denying the charges, was represented by Harare lawyer Mr Pardon Chakanyuka.
CMED lawyer Mr Moses Kamdefuwere confirmed that the hearing commenced and was postponed to Friday this week.

“The hearing started today (yesterday) the defence raised few preliminary legal issues. We responded to the issues and the case was postponed to Friday when the disciplinary authority will make a ruling,” Mr Kamdefuwere said.

According to a notice of disciplinary hearing, charges against Mr Manjengwa arose after he allegedly contravened Section 18.3 Subsection 2 of the CMED Code of Conduct when he dismally failed to carry out due diligence that First Oil Company had the fuel in Zimbabwe.

First Oil failed to deliver the three million litres of diesel procured by CMED last year and has not delivered the fuel to date.
