THE Old Mutual Community Rugby Sevens co-ordinator Checks Urayayi has commended Mabvuku after they won the tournament at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
Mabvuku beat Zengeza 15-5 in the Under-18s and drew 15-15 against Mbare.

In the Under-16 category, Mabvuku again played some good rugby and powered to a 20-0 victory over Zengeza.

Tournament organisers, who included former Zimbabwe Rugby Union director of rugby Liam Middleton, had the tough task of naming the best players and settled for three players.

Mabvuku’s Noah Ruzvidzo was named Under-18 player of the tournament while the Under-16 award went to Victor Muchucho from Seke.

The best player in the Under-14 category was centre Lesbon Matanhira from Mabvuku.

Urayayi said he was impressed by the performance of the winners.

“The Sevens tourney was the last one for the year and there was an excellent display by the youngsters who thronged the home of rugby in Harare.

“The country is blessed to have such vast talent at its disposal.

“The sponsors have helped us realise that we are actually a rich country when it comes to talented young rugby players from these previously marginalised areas.

“Our future is bright,” said Urayayi.

Old Mutual and the Zimbabwe Rugby Union are in talks to extend their relationship.
