Former Chimurenga Guru Thomas Mapfumo’s courier Jairos Chabvonga is back with an eight-track album titled “Chimurenga Heritage” which will be released officially tomorrow. The confident Chabvonga believes his latest offering will do well on the market after engaging Andy Muridzo and Soul Jah Love on the project.“I featured Soul Jah Love and Andy Muridzo because I want my message to appeal to all age groups. I want to enter the market with my own style and cut boundaries in terms of the audience that listen to my music.

“As an artiste, I am happy that our first and second projects did well, receiving fair air-play on local radio stations and learnt a lot from those experiences. With the feedback from our fans, we have once again brought a well-polished album,” Chabvonga said.

The Mapfumo-inspired musician is proving to be a force to reckon with on the local showbiz scene. He has shared the stage with several renowned musicians and has since engaged a cultural dance group which he will be performing with.

Chabvonga who signalled his entry in the music industry with the release of his debut album Nevanji, followed by Chimurenga Highway, promised to embark on a massive album promotion soon.

“I will soon embark on a massive album promotion where I will do a one street appearance to meet my fans give-away some CDs,” he said.

Songs on the album that was recorded and produced by Tapiwa Maselo at Maselo Studios are “Ndangariro”, “Ngaituruke”, “Rirongere”, “Dande”, “Musodzi”, “Simbiso”, “Mugota” and “Ndinotenda”.

He still maintains that his dream is either to share the stage or collaborate with Mapfumo in future.

“I know it is a challenging task to try and fit in Mukanya’s shoes in this bid to revive the dying Chimurenga genre.

“However, I am calling on the Chimurenga fans to be patient and give time to the genre which I am trying to resurrect the legacy this genre had in the 80s and 90s. I believe the sky is the limit and with God’s grace I will make it,” concluded Chabvonga.
