HARARE bowlers are expected to converge at Highlands Sports Club to take part in the Mixed Medley tournament starting this morning. The bowlers from Avondale, Alexandra, Highlands, City Bowling Club and Borrowdale Country Club will compete in the Singles and Trips. Highlands bowling queen Kerry Craven will miss today’s action and will only be back on the greens tomorrow.

“I am excited that we are back on the greens and I am glad to represent my club and take part in the event.

“I will be playing on Sunday (tomorrow).

“This is a good event which does not cater for the sport’s old players, but is encouraging to the new players,” said Craven.

The bowling season resumed in an exciting way for the bowlers, says Kerry Craven.

Craven was in top form with her teammate Wayne Williams after winning all their matches last week.

The Highlands side recorded 21 points and Alexandra were second on 18 points.

Dru Smith and young bowler Aaron Chilundo are the Alex pair and they had a good outing as they only lost one match.

Smith said she was happy with the way the event has been running and is looking forward to the Trips and Singles.

“We have started the season and it is good that we are playing these games. This is the first time for such a tournament to take place.

“We have never played this tournament before, but I believe it is a good way of starting our season and it is a welcome change than to be starting the season with the same events,” said Smith.

While the Harare bowlers are back on the greens, their Bulawayo counterparts are still on a break and are set to resume their season on January 24.

Bowls veteran Jane Rigby said she was ready for the season.

“I had a good holiday and cannot wait to be busy on the green this season. We are going to start the season with the district Pairs where we are expected to play against all the clubs.

“So, I believe it is going to be exciting,” said Rigby.
