Khama Billiat

OVERSEAS interest continues to hang over the head of Zimbabwean star midfielder Khama Billiat despite no concrete offers being tabled to Mamelodi Sundowns, KickOff.com has gathered. Billiat — arguably the best player in the South African Absa Premier Soccer League this season — has been an influential factor in The Brazilians’ charge towards the championship and has already reached double figures in the league scoring charts, the first time he has done so in the PSL. Word is that besides the long-standing admiration that the Zimbabwean has had from France there is now a club in Belgium that is keen on him, while there is interest from the super-rich Chinese Super League and the Arabian Gulf League.

The club in China is said to be keen in meeting what Sundowns will ask for and will also hand Billiat a lucrative deal, better than what he is currently earning at Chloorkop and better than what the clubs chasing him in Europe will pay him.

However, it will be up to Billiat to decide on whether he wants to head out to Asia and make money or take the path of seeking “football progress” by heading out to play for a Belgian or French club that will not pay him as much as the Chinese.

Sundowns have already made it known that they will not stand in the player’s way should the right offer be tabled and Billiat is keen on the move. The Brazilians just want to recover what they spent when they recruited the forward from Ajax Cape Town plus part of what they have spent on him during his time at Chloorkop.

Billiat turns 26 in August and is faced with making career decisions that will determine whether he chooses to continue enjoying the comforts of remaining in a PSL, where there is nothing else for him to achieve or move abroad.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits yesterday confirmed that Highlanders forward Knox Mutizwa’s moves is now a done deal after he impressed during a trial in December. The 22-year-old, who scored 14 goals in 17 starts for Highlanders last season, is expected to be registered as a foreigner next season.

Mutizwa’s manager Gibson Mahachi confirmed the latest development and said the striker will move to his new club on July 1. — KickOff.com/Sports Reporter.
