Beitbridge Town Council has started servicing over 2 000 residential stands which were allocated to residents in 2011 and will be ready for occupation early next year. Workers from the council’s engineering department started laying water supply pipes last week, while trenches have been dug to pave way for the setting up of sewer reticulation pipes.
The local authority has already completed setting up the road network.

“We will start by laying the water supply pipes and later lay the sewer pipes,” said one of the workers on site.
“We hope that we will be done by the end of this year. At the moment, we have laid pipes connecting the new stands with the existing main water pipelines.”

Some of the residents have since started constructing houses at the new stands. Town secretary Dr Sipho Singo said council aimed at easing accommodation woes that have become a perennial problem for the town.

He said council was looking forward to servicing more stands by early next year.  Dr Singo said they had sent their Master Development Plan to the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing for approval.
