Newcomers in South African pop music, Beatenberg lived to their top billing after they put up a splendid performance at the just ended Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa). The trio, who walked away with six gongs at the South Africa Music Awards held last month, gave a sterling performance on the ZOL Main Stage over the weekend much to the delight of meeting their Zimbabwean fans who were watching them play for the very first time. Their act left Matthew Field, the lead singer with no option but to thank the fans who were singing along.

“We are happy to be in Zimbabwe for the first time and most importantly Hifa 2015. You are friendly people, as a team we are surprised that we are known this far. Continue supporting our music guys,” he said.

Beatenberg made their grand entrance with songs like “Chelsea Blakemore”, “Southern Suburbs”, “All About Me”, “Echoes”, “Bend the Rules”, “Thinking About You” and others.

One of the most enthralling performances of the night came from their hit song “Pluto” that earned them three of their six gongs. The unmistakable lead singer was at his best singing “Pluto” and “Achievement” much to the delight of those in attendance.

As the show wore on, the boy band showered compliments on their fans at the beginning of each track.

“We love you Zimbabwe, we are going to play you more. We are looking forward for more relations that will bring us back again to perform,” the lead singer said.

After making their radio debut late last year, their new album “The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg”, their collaboration with DJ Clock quickly shot up to the number two spot (and climbing) on South Africa’s National Airplay Chart.
