Paul Mandlenkosi Makaya, a creative art and design student at Chinhoyi University of Technology will hold a solo exhibition of art illustrations tomorrow at Tropical Gallery at Sam Levy Village in Borrowdale.

The exhibition is scheduled for 10am and is open to the public and entry is free.

The exhibition is titled “The Influencers” and it is a showcase of illustrations of a group of renowned individuals in various sectors which include media, business and the arts. The individuals are highly innovative, determined and influential in their varied spheres of influence. This select group is an inspiration locally and attracts attention internationally as well. The illustrations have images of the likes of business guru Strive Masiyiwa, award-winning comedian Carl Joshua Ncube and renowned actor Danai Gurira.

Makaya discovered his artistic skills at a tender age while at nursery school.

At primary level he was convinced of the intrinsic creative gift that was in him. Then, he began to notice that with every line he drew and every object he organised it was artistic and since then he never looked back. To date he has showcased his work at different exhibitions that include the design Exhibition at the National Gallery (2013) and participated in a cultural exchange program in United Kingdom.

Apart from being an illustration visual artist, Makaya is also a graphic designer and has rendered services to organisations like Telecel, Central African Banking Society and Esteelader Global.

In addition, he is also a member of the Jazz Muskteers as a trumpeter and once shared a stage with Oliver Mtukudzi.

The Influencers exhibition is a plea to people to appreciate the great works of our own fellow Zimbabweans, who are working hard despite all odds. It is to motivate the dreams of many people in the country.
