Zanu-Pf Environment and Tourism Department in conjunction with Friends of Joshua Trust yesterday held a Photographic exhibition that was meant to remind the young generation of the liberation struggle. The Africa Day photographic exhibition was running under the theme “Detention, Betrayal and Banishment” and Vice President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa was the guest of honour.

Cde Mnangagwa said the event was dedicated to one of Africa’s gallant sons.

“This event is dedicated to Brigadier General Hashim Mbita who played a pivotal role in the liberation of Africa,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa also hailed the organisers of the event saying it will go a long way in educating the young people on what transpired during the liberation struggle of Africa. Among the photographs that were exhibited were the photographs of women who also played a part in the history of Africa and they were under the banner “Daughters of Africa”, which was dedicated to two daughters of Africa, Mbuya Bona and Gogo Mahadebe, mothers to the president Cde R.G Mugabe and Umdala Wethu Joshua Nkomo. The women included the late Amai Sally Mugabe, Graca Machel, Amai Dr Grace Mugabe, Mirriam Makeba and Mama Maria Nyerere. Other photographs that were exhibited included those of the gallant sons who fought and were detained during the liberation struggle. These include President Mugabe, Patrice Emery Lumumba, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo among others.
