The Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe is back with the third edition set to take place this weekend at Barclays Sports Club in Mount Pleasant
Running under the theme “Be Yourself, Proudly Made”, the show is striving to encourage locals to wear locally made brands, according to founder and director Shamiso Catherine Ruzvidzo.
“The main thrust of Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe is to effectively contribute to the development and future of the Zimbabwean fashion sector, by nurturing and developing local talent,” she said.

Complete with zest, the FWZ opens with the LUXurious VIP black tie charity opening that will be held on the eve of the event.
The opening is in partnership with LUX (Unilever Zimbabwe) and will be raising funds for charity.

“Five percent of ticket sales from the opening event will be donated to Shingirirai Trust, an orphanage supporting over 200 orphans. The full weekend then commences on Saturday October 25,”she said

The weekend will also be marked by live music performances from Cathy Mhlanga, Chris Wright, Djembe Monks and poetry by Vokal DaPoet.

“Also on the carte du jour is the fashion market, the beauty hub and the food market which we anticipate to be the best shopping experience of the year,” she said.

As is the norm, emerging designers that would have taken part at the three months long Designer Development Programme will showcase their capsule collections at the official opening night.

“The emerging designer brands for this year include Mamoyo by Pamela Mashanda, Zoe by Thandie Mguquka, 7:30 by Tanaka Leroy Samukange, Brie by Bridget Nyathi and House of Davidson by Tanaka Davidson Ndawona.

“A winner will be selected at the closing of Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe, walking away with the FWZ Designer Talent Award and major prizes that will enable them to kick start their career.

“Last year’s award was won by Samantha Natasha Matemadombo,” she said.
Launched in 2013, FWZ prides itself of being an essential shopping, music and food event that merges fashion, music and food; primarily promoting fashion.

It is a shopping hub that provides an opportunity for Zimbabwean designers, retailers, beauticians, makeup houses, musicians and fine food providers to come together under one platform.

Established designer brands to look forward to this year are Yanai by Tapiwa Mudekunye, Moi Amara by Jenika Shah, #NDNM by Gwi Mabika, Kun’anda by Fatsani Kulera, Haus of Stone by Danayi Chapfika, Gilded Sands by Aobakwe Molosiwa from Botswana and William Bobongo from France.

Tickets are now on sale at Umax Kiosks or directly from Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe.
The LUXurious Vip black tie charity event tickets are going foe $30, general entry is $5 for adults and $2 for children. All fashion show tickets are $10 each.
