Cracking jokes, laughing, dancing and singing can bring lighter moments at a wedding. People don’t like boring moments and these moments can only be killed by having an MC like Natty MC.

When given the mic, talented 25-year-old Nathan ‘Natty MC’ Gutu would make sure that everyone who would have attended any of his functions would be left wanting more.

He is an MC as well as a choreographer and he has joined the two to come up with a weapon that everyone would appreciate whenever he is in front of people.

In an interview with The Herald Lifestyle Natty MC said making people laugh is his passion and cracking jokes has become part of his life and people have begun to love him for that.

“I’m a person who loves talking in front of people, and when given the opportunity I make sure that everyone there enjoys the moment and make it a day to remember,” he said

To date he has hosted weddings in and around Harare and people are enjoying his work to the extent that everywhere he attends a wedding people are left asking for more.

“I have lost count of the weddings and events that I have hosted but there are more than 200. What I enjoy most is that people love what I do and I do it with passion,” he said.

Natty MC said he started this MC business in 2010 and never thought that it would take him this far.

“I started this way back when I attended a function and the MC was not there, a friend of mine who was there persuaded me to take the stage and what happened there was unbelievable as I managed to get the attention of everyone there in 15 minutes.

“Everyone was laughing at what I was saying and I don’t even remember where the jokes were coming from, but what I enjoyed the most is that people there loved what I was doing and from there I never stopped,” he said.

He added that after that incident he never looked back but continued to perfect himself and today he has even received recognition in South Africa where he goes to host weddings and parties.

Asked about where his jokes emanate from, the soft spoken young MC said that they come from his surroundings.

“Personally I’m somebody who is humorous. Jokes are everywhere – in the kombis that we travel in everyday, the churches, politics, internet, even our homes. What is important is just to add flavour and know how to play around with your words.”

With his antics and style he has managed to host the Zimpraise International Gospel and Music festival which he termed as his biggest function.

“I was the host at the Zimpraise festival which was held recently at HICC and was attended by more than 5 000 guests from all over Zimbabwe. I was nervous at first then managed to compose myself to the extent that I put on an outstanding performance that left everyone happy.”

Inspired by one MC Norman, Natty MC dreams of being a big television presenter who is internationally recognised.

“My dream is to become a guru in television presentation. I want to be like all those big names that you hear on radio and see on television like Itai Mutinhiri, Tich Mataz, Tich Mahoni, among others.

“Being an MC does not mean you have to do everything but you should use the other service providers who would be there on the function like the DJs to entertain the crowd,” he added.

He said that since the industry is easy to penetrate and everyone is joining, what is important is for one to be consistence in the business.

“You need not to double-book events, be yourself and don’t compete with anyone if you want to survive and have more clients in this industry. Clients love honest people.”

Natty MC said for one to be a good MC they need to be on point and must not lose focus of what they are doing.

“I would like to thank God for giving me this gift. People love what I do as this is proved by the overwhelming feedback that they give me whenever I attend a function, contacts to attend other function start from that day that I would have performed.”

For Natty MC to be an MC does not mean you must be good at making people laugh only. He said appearance is something that also counts and for him he makes sure that he is properly dressed.

“I’m personally a person who likes to look good. I believe in appearance. You must be neatly dressed and for me it’s either I dress suiting the colours on the wedding or I have my design but I just make sure that my appearance is appealing,” he said.

Apart from being an MC he is also a Zimpraise dancer and he has managed to balance the two. He said dancing has also given him an advantage as it can entertain people before you start to bombard them with jokes and this has always helped him.

The young man said he is a person who likes to enjoy himself through hanging around with friends and family, watching cricket and braaing.
