Zimbabwe’s largest integrated media house, Zimpapers, at the weekend joined Shungudzevana Children’s Home in Mhondoro for a thanksgiving ceremony to honour partners who have made donations to the institution to ensure a better future for the young children.

Representatives from Roman Catholic Church also graced the event with guest of honour and aspiring Member of Parliament for Mhondoro Mubaira, Mr Chamu Chiwanza, urging children at Shungudzevana to pursue their dreams and grab opportunities that come their way with both hands.

“These donations from partners will surely go a long way. I encourage you children to take advantage of this situation and move a step ahead to change your story,” said Mr Chiwanza.

He pledged to build a house to accommodate more children and donated one tonne of cement for the building of more facilities for the children.

Shungudzevana board chairperson Dr Oliver Chibage said they had reserved the day to have a thanksgiving ceremony to thank their partners in a way that pleased God.

“With this day we see God’s intervention and hand as individuals and corporates have come together to impact heavily on our survival and develop our home to produce enough food for our children,” he said.

Shungudzevana founder and national executive director Sister Mercy Mutyambizi invited partners and prospective donors to a fundraising dinner scheduled for October 27 at Cresta Lodge in Harare.

Zimpapers public relations and communications manager Mrs Pauline Matanda represented the company and said the media house recently drilled a borehole at the children’s home.

The company also handed over bunk beds, mattresses and an assortment of kitchen ware as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

Zimpapers is also paying school fees for the underprivileged in rural communities and has supported children’s homes like Mathew Rusike in Harare and Thembiso in Bulawayo.
