THE Zimbabwe swimming team will today battle for silverware in the most prestigious South Africa National Junior Championships at Kings Park Pool in Durban.

Team Zimbabwe has 17 junior swimmers and left the country yesterday for the four-day meet that will see more than 10 African countries, including swimming giants South Africa, Zambia and Kenya, taking part.

Team manager, Tracy Doorman, expects a tough event.

We know this is one of the most prestigious and toughest competitions we will be participating in.

“But we are confident that the local and international tournaments that we participated in have boosted our preparedness and I believe the team will give their best for our country.

“We are looking forward to a great display, personal bests and hopefully, medal-winning performances,” said Doorman.

Among the swimmers who are expected to do well at this meet is the Zimbabwe team vice-captain Wisdom Shumba who last weekend scooped six gold medals and the overall aggregate trophy at the National Junior Championships in Bulawayo.
