THE Expo 2020 Dubai gives Zimbabwe an opportunity to sell the reforms being undertaken in the country to reposition it as an investment magnet in the world, a top Government official has said.

Zimbabwe’s Commissioner-General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Ambassador Mary Mubi yesterday told stakeholders at a workshop in Kadoma that the exhibition would also help the country attain Vision 2030.

“The Government, together with the private sector is undertaking to create new opportunities in all the sectors including education, finance, industry and governance, for sustainable development towards a high middle income economy by 2030,” said Ambassador Mubi.

“In addition, Expo 2020 Dubai is an opportunity for Zimbabwe to celebrate and expound on the results of the current public sector reform efforts, as expounded by the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), which include the ease of doing business, corporate governance, State enterprises and other reforms.

“The thrust of the Expo is well in sync with Zimbabwe’s vision of becoming a prosperous and empowered upper middle income society by 2030, and (the) mission of promoting ‘Brand Zimbabwe’.”

Expo 2020 Dubai runs from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021 under the theme, “Connecting minds, creating the future”.

Ambassador Mubi said Zimbabwe is an official participant in the Expo under the “assisted programme” developed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support eligible developing nations, lower and middle-income countries.

She said Zimbabwe has been allocated a fully-fitted pavilion, built in the thematic districts for higher visibility.

“In addition, Zimbabwe will also have a retail store and a kiosk at the Word Market section. These retail outlets will be stocked with proudly Zimbabwean products from across the whole country and the top brands from Zimbabwe’s manufacturing industry.

“Zimbabwe will highlight how the country is the awakening giant, open for business and a land of vast opportunities. Opportunity is at the heart of development, ensuring that new horizons are opened up to individuals and communities to help them meet their current needs and their future aspirations,” said Ambassador Mubi.

The Expo has been themed; “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” which represents the potential of what can be achieved when meaningful collaborations and partnerships are forged.

Speaking at the same workshop, UAE Ambassador designate, Ambassador Jerry Ndlovu said the expo was an opportunity for Zimbabwe to transform economically.

“This is an opportunity for us to market our country in Dubai and lure investors. In essence, the design should be centred upon showcasing Brand Zimbabwe, exhibiting our abundant resources, the skills and knowledge of our people and the vision of becoming an upper middle income economy by 2030,” said Ambassador Ndlovu.

Expo 2020 is a world expo to be hosted by Dubai in the UAE opening on October 20.
