ZIMBABWE Cricket have appointed former Mid West Rhinos chief executive Kenyon Ziehl as the new convener of the national selection panel. Ziehl replaces Givemore Makoni, who is now director for development and club cricket. He is not new to the panel, as he was part of the selection committee in 2006, and chairing it from the end of 2007 to 2009.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed once again as convener,” said Ziehl.

“I will carry on the good work my colleague Givemore has been doing because it is vital that as the national selection panel, we do our best to ensure a positive team performance.”

The selection panel also includes national team coach Davenell Whatmore, his assistant Douglas Hondo and national team captain Elton Chigumbura.

Ziehl is a former Zimbabwe A player.

He also played first class cricket for Manicaland and the Zimbabwe Country Districts and played rugby for Zimbabwe.

The 52-year-old has also worked as an administrator with the Mid-West Rhinos since 2009.

He is expected to begin work when the panel sits this week to select the team to face New Zealand in a short tour that begins this Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
