The ruling Zanu PF has embarked on a cell and village structure verification drive in Mashonaland West as it readies for the 2023 harmonised elections.

Zanu PF Politburo, provincial chairpersons from all the wings, Central Committee and national executive members, held an executive meeting in Chinhoyi on Sunday to plan for the drive.

Other teams are deployed across the country, with others at the Command Centre, at Zanu PF headquarters.

Addressing the party officials, Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa said the drive was in line with the party’s scientific way of planning for the elections.

“As Zanu PF leadership in Mashonaland West Province, we have to make sure that President Mnangagwa and the party wins the 2023 harmonised elections,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

“Democracy is a game of numbers; this is why we are working to ensure that the restructuring exercise takes place. We are the only nation in the world that requested for ballots after successfully winning the war.

“We won the war on a scientific basis although we relied on the traditional and spiritual welfare. We had structures then and we still have our structures intact and an organised nation.”

Cde Mutsvangwa said no other party in Zimbabwe could match Zanu PF’s expertise in leadership.

He said the party needed to know the number of voters it had, as it planned for the elections and targeted to win the elections resoundingly.

The cell verification exercise, said Cde Mutsvangwa, was critical as the cells would be used during the party’s primary elections.

He said President Mnangagwa’s desire for equality had seen people from other countries, including Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique, being afforded an opportunity to register and vote in the forthcoming elections.

President Mnangagwa has lifted Zimbabwe’s profile across the country, in the region and globally, thanks to his politics of engagement, re-engagement and unity, said Cde Mutsvangwa.

“The President has successfully directed the use of our generous soils and climate to make us food secure,” he said.

“We had a breaking wheat production last year and we are headed to be the world exporter of grain and beef.”

In her remarks, Zanu PF provincial chairman, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said she was happy about the number of people that had registered to vote so far.

She promised to activate all party structures to move the mobilisation campaign a gear up.

“Let’s encourage all our members that do not have identification cards to make use of the drive by the department of registry so that they will be able to register to vote,” said Cde Mliswa-Chikoka.

“We are now among the top five provinces in the country to have highest numbers of registered voters and this shows we are working together with all our structures and affiliates.”
