ZANU-PF has described the late national hero Cde Simon Khaya Moyo (76) as a patriot, courageous and selfless freedom fighter and a humble career diplomat.

He succumbed to cancer on Sunday 14 November.

At the time of his untimely death, he was the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity.

Zanu PF acting Secretary for Information and Publicity Dr Mike Bimha said Ambassador Khaya Moyo was a seasoned party cadre who had wide experience in Government having traversed a number of ministries including Industry and Commerce, Information, Mining and Energy as well as Tourism and Environment.

Despite his vast experience and admirable track record, Dr Bimha said he remained humble, jovial and approachable.

He said he had a high sense of duty and his loyalty to the party and authorities was unquestionable.

“He travelled widely in the region and beyond and gained a broader outlook that presented himself as a resource to the party as we cultivated cordial relations with the outside world.

“Notwithstanding his ability to sustain an argument, Ambassador Khaya Moyo was eloquent, articulate with a neck for addressing various conversations sensibly,” said Dr Bimha.

Dr Bimha said Cde SK Moyo’s experience with the media fraternity saw him guiding members of the fourth estate never to stray from the truth in their discharge of duty as time and again would hear him talk about how the pen was mightier than the sword.

“He fought a brave and good fight and deserve to remain in our memories for a long time as we emulate his impressive track record that he leaves behind,”.

A man of Cde Khaya Moyo’s attributes, Dr Bimha said, can never die, but can only depart for higher responsibility.

The struggle luminary is scheduled to be buried on Monday at the National Heroes Acre following consultations between President Mnangagwa and the national hero’s family.
