Zanu-PF organs have encouraged party members to take President Mugabe’s calls for unity as a command saying harmony is key in registering a resounding victory in the 2018 harmonised elections. The organs also acknowledged that any divisions should be resolved internally to avoid giving the country’s detractors ammunition to dismantle the revolutionary party.

Addressing thousands of zanu-pf supporters at the party’s headquarters recently, President Mugabe called for unity and dialogue wherever there are contradictions. The zanu-pf President and First Secretary also warned party cadres to be wary of the enemy, which was also working tirelessly, through covert avenues, to divide the party.

zanu-pf Women’s League political commissar Cde Mabel Chinomona on Thursday said detractors always targeted weak areas, hence the need for unity. “What we expect is that if there are any problems in the party, people (should) sit down and solve the issues in-house,” she said.

“It is a fact that there is no organisation without contradictions. If a husband disagrees with his wife, does he have to call the children to come and witness? Likewise, we expect that in the face of elections, such disagreements should be resolved quickly.”

Cde Chinomona added: “We should also note that there is an enemy out there who is happy in seeing us divided. And, when he sees divisions, he actually accelerates his moves and causes more harm. I encourage party cadres to be wary of such. We confuse those we lead if we do not show them unity and the right direction.

“We should give them confidence that things are under control. Going public will not solve anything. The President has always hinted on that. I am a trained soldier and there are some things which I can say directly to my leader and some issues where I need to go through the (correct) channels.”

zanu-pf Youth League deputy secretary Cde Kudzanai Chipanga said divisive tendencies should have no room in the revolutionary party. “We welcome the message of unity from President Mugabe with both hands,” he said.

“Unity is key to the growth of any organisation. At the same time, we applaud his call for discipline in the party. There is no party which can reach greater heights without discipline and unity followed by patriotism. We take his word as a command. We expect every organ of the party to abide by that.”

He added: “Discipline should also be among our leaders including the war veterans. They expect us to maintain the legacy and at the same time they should not be seen to be destroying that legacy as evidenced by the communiqué written by some war veterans renouncing President Mugabe’s leadership. As from Wednesday we believe cadres will be talking, walking and sleeping unity.”
