in to prevent rival supporters from fighting at Gazebo grounds at a sprawling new settlement at Caledonia Farm commonly known as KwaBhobho. Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday confirmed the incident but said no arrests were made.

She said rival party supporters threw stones and bottles at each other in the skirmishes before riot police formed a cordon dividing the supporters at competing gatherings.
“There were clashes between Zanu-PF and MDC-T supporters last Saturday and police had to intervene to restrain the supporters,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the police were beefing up security ahead of the July 31 harmonised poll and warned against any provocative action.
She warned that anyone caught engaging in violence would be dealt with decisively under the law.

“If caught on the wrong side of the law you risk going to jail and lose your chance to vote during the harmonised elections,” she said.
“There will be zero tolerance against political violence.”
MDC-T supporters have perpetrated a series of violent activities targeting Zanu-PF supporters in the past few weeks.
