A YOUTH hub, which will act as a safe space for adolescents and young women to discuss issues on sexual reproductive health, has been launched in Mutasa District of Manicaland.

The project was launched courtesy of the collaborative efforts of Bonda-based Chiedza Community Welfare Trust and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Africa Trust  (SAT).

Mutasa district administrator Mr Tendai Kapenzi hailed the launch of the youth hub saying it would benefit adolescents in the  district.

“The youth hub will go a long way in ensuring that youths are kept busy, which gives them a sense of focus and discipline, something Mutasa needs to keep its youths busy,” he said.

In an interview with The Herald, SAT country operations manager Mrs Hamida Mauto said: “The youth hub in Mutasa is there to create a safe space for adolescents (both girls and boys) and young women to discuss issues on their sexual reproductive health, leadership and confidence building.”

Director of Chiedza Community Welfare Trust Mrs Gladys Mukaratirwa said: “The youth hub is open to all youths in the district to interact with each other and share good ideas.”

She said as director of the trust, she was advocating for other communities to create such safe spaces for youths to access edutainment, sexual and reproductive health services, career guidance, life skills and support from other                                                          youths.

Chiedza Youth Hub was established in 2014, but had not been officially launched.

It will be used by 67 youths to access sexual reproductive health rights awareness and services, library, edutainment, skills training and ball games.

SAT also donated chairs, desks, one soccer ball, one netball and a chess board to the hub.
