PREPARATIONS for the 7th Zanu PF National Women’s League Conference are at an advanced stage, with provinces expected to conduct their nomination processes over the weekend.

The conference runs from June 23 to 26 in Harare, ahead of the party’s elective congress set for October.

There has been an overwhelming response from women, with the party receiving more than 100 CVs from aspiring candidates vying for the 40 positions that are up for grabs at the elective conference.

Addressing a media conference in Harare yesterday, Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, said preparations for the National Women’s League Conference were going on well.

“At the moment, we are planning to hold Women’s League Provincial conferences set for 28 and 29 May 2022,” he said.

“As such, the commissariat department has deployed Central Committee members and the secretariat from the party headquarters to superintend and preside over the provincial nominative processes.

“It should be taken into consideration that the party had received more than 100 CVs for the aspiring candidates. These candidates have their CVs vetted and cleared by the party’s Security department.”

Cde Bimha said the provinces will conduct their nomination processes in line with the given schedule and the party’s internal elections rules and regulations.

He called on members to exhibit a high level of discipline and discouraged party members from using any unorthodox means to win votes, and to shun violence during the process.

“Over and above, we are calling for our party members to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and discipline and embrace peace, unity, togetherness, love and teamwork during these provincial nominative processes,” said Cde Bimha.

Zanu PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, urged members to adhere to party rules and regulations.

She commended the commissariat and the security departments for successfully managing the process so far.

“It is indeed a process well executed,” said Cde Chinomona.

She announced the list of successful candidates who are eligible for provincial nomination processes.

Some of the Women’s League heavyweights contesting for positions are Women’s League Secretary for Administration Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, Deputy Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Angeline Masuku, the League’s Secretary for Commissariat Cde Mabel Mbowa, Cdes Tambudzani Mohadi and Nyasha Chikwinya, among others.

Meanwhile, Cde Perezidio Mapfumo from Hurungwe, Mashonaland West province has withdrawn her candidature.
