A Seke woman reportedly fatally assaulted her maid with an electric cable after she had failed to disclose the man responsible for her pregnancy.

Acting Mashonaland East police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident yesterday.

“I can confirm the death of Tazorodzwa Takavada (19), who was fatally assaulted by her employer Lucia Pedro (31) of Musona Village under Chief Seke, after she failed to give a satisfactory answer on who had made her pregnant,” he said.

Insp Mwanza said they have since arrested Pedro in connection with the murder.

It is alleged that on April 10, Pedro saw Takavada on her way from the toilet holding two pieces of chillies.

Asst Insp Mwanza said Pedro asked Takavada what she was doing with the chillies in the toilet and, she told her that she wanted to terminate her three month-old-pregnancy.

It is alleged that Pedro demanded to know who had made her pregnant, but she could not give her a satisfactory answer. This, it is alleged, infuriated Pedro, who picked up an electric cable which she used to assault Takavada all over the body.

It is alleged that Pedro only stopped assaulting Takavada after realising that she would not disclose anything.

It is alleged that Pedro only stopped at around 9pm. The pair slept in the same bedroom after Takavada had told Pedro that she was not feeling well.

The following morning, it is alleged that Pedro woke up and discovered that Takavada had died. She rushed and informed her sister about the incident.

A report was then made to the police leading to Pedro’s arrest.
