SHAUN Whyte, chairman of the Bogwheelers Club, has hailed young motocross rider Davin Cocker for being an exceptional rider after he produced some flawless riding as he stormed to victory in the 65cc and 85cc classes at Donnybrook Raceway on Sunday. The well-attended “restricted club meeting” attracted 62 field riders who were battling it out for club points.

And young Cocker proved he will soon be a force to reckon with in local motocross circles as he swept to victory in all his races in the 65cc and 85cc classes.

“He is a talented and competitive rider who is definitely going to go far and put the country on the world map. He is very passionate about the sport and practises a lot to always be in competitive form. On Sunday, from the onset, he started strong and finished strong to secure the first position in the two classes,” said Whyte.

Whyte said the meeting was a huge success with the riders keeping everyone on the edge of their seats throughout the day.

“It was a well-attended meeting, everything went on smoothly as planned, the riders put up a brilliant show and kept everyone on the edge of their seats from the moment they got onto the track.

“There was a lot of tough competition, particularly from the guys who were fresh from the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship in Kitwe, Zambia, whose experience there  gave them an edge over other riders who did not attend (the event in Kitwe).

“It was a good race meeting and the supporters who came were audience to a spectacular display of motocross action,” Whyte added.

Other riders who did well on Sunday included the exciting young Dyaan Manuel who won the 50cc Class and Wade Ashwell in the 125cc Class.

Tanya Muzinda, who moved up from the 65cc B class to the more challenging 65 A Class and is still finding her feet after having been out of action for close to six months, came fifth in her section in which she competed with boys.

She finished behind Cocker, Reagan Bond, Mudiwa Chigumba and Kuda Mhene (Jnr).

Other promising young riders who took part in Sunday’s exciting event at Donnybrook included the likes of Big “BJ” Chitima (Jnr), Ryan Masimo, Lee Chigumba (Jnr) and Emmanuel Bako.

All these young riders have “invaded” motocross which used to be predominantly a sport for the white people in Zimbabwe and their involvement in it paints a brighter future for this exciting motorcyling event in this  country.

Meanwhile, there was no competition as usual for the country’s champion rider Jayden Ashwell who effortlessly sailed through to claim top position in the main MX1 Class.

Jayden Ashwell was just a joy to watch throughout the day on Sunday as he convincingly won all his three races in the MX1 Class.

Seasoned rider Shane “Zongeramushe” Thomas was also unchallenged in the Veterans Class.

There were also more than seven riders in the PeWee Class, a section designed for competitors under the age of seven.
