The Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) is encouraging women in Manicaland to participate in economic development of the province.

WCoZ Mutare chapter chairperson Mrs Selina Marewangepo made the remarks at the young women forum meeting held at their offices yesterday.

“It is the responsibility of young women and girls to take part in economic development, engage in income-generating projects to earn income and get sustainability in the advent of these economic hardships,” said Mrs Marewangepo.

She expressed concern over discrimination against disabled women.

“We are all equal human beings despite factors like disability and social status,” she said.

“Some young women are not able to air out their views and thoughts due to the pull-down syndrome among women.”

WCoZ coordinator Mrs Farirai Mudiwa said women should engage with civic society in their areas to get solutions to challenges confronting them.

“Civic society must be engaged through duty bearers like legal experts, church and traditional leaders to make them instil gender balance and provide solutions to problems faced by young women,” she said.

“As an organisation, we must be able to come up with a list of feminists surrounding us and engage in solving young women’s problems.”
