LONDON. — Wayne Rooney has struggled to find his shooting boots this season for Manchester United – and Greater Manchester Police have taken it upon themselves to let him know by declaring the striker a “missing person” in an hilarious Twitter joke. The 30-year-old frontman failed to find the net for the fourth match in a row as United were held to their third consecutive draw against Crystal Palace.

With just two English Premier League goals to his name the England captain has been at the centre of criticism from fans, and many supporters have called for Louis van Gaal to drop the club captain. And Greater Manchester Police had their say on Rooney’s misfortune when they tweeted: “Missing Person — Wayne Rooney last seen in the Trafford area wearing a red shirt any sightings please inform colleagues.”

Unsurprisingly, the original tweet has already been deleted but it was certainly one of the best and most unique. This was not the only blunder made by the police on the weekend, however, as Merseyside Police were forced to apologise for their response to a tweet that referenced rape following Everton’s 6-2 thrashing of Sunderland. — The Daily Express.
