Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Victor Matemadanda has challenged freedom fighters to play a leading role in initiating projects that feed into national economic development. He made the remarks during a meeting with war veterans at Masvingo Polytechnic College over the weekend.

“We urge all our war veterans to register for various projects that the Zanu-PF will be carrying out countrywide. These are aimed at empowering all those who participated in the liberation of this nation.

“Government has offered each province land to boost production in the agricultural sector. It is very important for you (war veterans) to take advantage of abundant opportunities availed by new dispensation and contribute to national economic development.

“There is a lot we can do in agriculture and mining,” he said.

He said instead of focusing on money they should generate tangible investment and creating employment for the youths.

“We have had some people suggesting that they need money instead of projects, but President Mnangagwa has sent me to tell you that this is your opportunity to make money using resources within your communities,” he said.

He said Government was in the midst of identifying farm holders with the potential to produce more for themselves and the community and contribute to national economic growth.

He said they were looking at those who may major on cash crops among them soya beans and dagga.

“We are going to identify farmers who are already practicing, and source investors who will help them to boost our economy and help in empowering our liberators,” said the Deputy Minister.

He also encouraged the ex-freedom fighters to remain united working together to strength Zanu-PF’s dominance.
