Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko

Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko yesterday commended the Seventh Day Adventist church for complementing Government efforts in building and refurbishing schools and clinics in the community. Addressing a high-powered SDA delegation which paid a courtesy call on him at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare, VP Mphoko said Government was pleased with the church’s programmes.

“The Government of Zimbabwe is grateful with the programmes that the church is undertaking in this country, we really appreciate that,” said VP Mphoko.

“I have learnt that the church is currently building schools, refurbishing hospitals and clinics and offering free medical services to patients and all these facilities will be handed over to the Government of Zimbabwe to benefit the communities.”

VP Mphoko, who is an Adventist, also said the church’s initiatives would positively transform the country.

“As the Government we are fully behind these initiatives because they are mainly designed to benefit the people,” he said.

The SDA delegation comprised the church world leader Dr Ted Wilson, Southern Africa Indian Ocean Division president Pastor Paul Ratsara and the Zimbabwe Union Conference executives.

Dr Wilson said he was happy to meet VP Mphoko and went on to share a scripture with him and prayed for the Government and people of Zimbabwe.

He briefed VP Mphoko about his visit and also expressed gratitude for the freedom of worship in Zimbabwe.

Dr Wilson praised Zimbabweans for being peaceful.

“We are here for the Revelation of Hope evangelism meetings which is the brainchild of the church in Zimbabwe to win more souls for Christ,” he said.

“This shows that there is freedom of worship in this country and on behalf of the world church I want to laud the Government of Zimbabwe for that.

“We are running these evangelistic meetings concurrently with a health expo and I am pleased to say that the campaign has seen patients receiving free medical assistance in Chitungwiza. Doctors from all over the world are here to support this initiative.”
