Fashion stylist Anesu Mhembere affectionately known as “Minister of White Linen” has said fashion just like music, should be respected as it unites people and boosts the economy and the tourism sector.

Minister of White Linen said this in an interview with The Herald Arts, saying all is set for the fashion show tomorrow in Highlands, Harare.

The afternoon event will run under the theme, ‘Building the total person through fashion — Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

“The event’s dress code is inspired by the vibrant SDG colours, allowing attendees to express their support for any of the 17 goals through their choice of attire,” he said.

“We also aim at recognising the sartorial prowess of attendees, with the best-dressed participant standing to win a sponsored self-care package from the esteemed local Beauty Spa, Surreal Spa.”

He said the event celebrates fashion, sustainability, and unity.

“The idea came in 2019, and Fashion Fete has served as a collective movement, incorporating two distinct sub-movements — the DandyGentlemen Movement for men and the VogueLadies movement for women,” he said.

“These sub-movements share a common aim; to unite and empower individuals through fashion, to nurture the “Total Man through Fashion” and the “Total Woman through Fashion.” Minister of White Linen said through this unified platform, Fashion Fete seeks to harness the transformative power of fashion to address the challenges impacting the contemporary generation, emphasizing the overarching mission of “Building the Total Person Through Fashion.”

“The forthcoming Fashion Fete event will pivot towards the global goals set by the United Nations in the form of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.”

Minister of White Linen said the focus will not only dwell on advocating sustainable fashion but also spotlight the critical targets of the SDGs.

“The event will feature a remarkable array of activities, including captivating fashion runways, live music, spoken word performances, opportunities for networking, engaging exhibitions, and enriching personal development programs,” he explained.

“Notably, this grand affair will be graced by the presence of esteemed fashion luminaries and prominent figures, with businesswoman, Zodwa Mkandla selected as guest of honour. The event will start from 10 am until 3 pm.

This elegant spectacle is masterminded by MW Studios, a renowned local creative consultancy company, dedicated to curating a captivating and enriching experience that seamlessly integrates the worlds of fashion and sustainability.”
