The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has announced the death of two of its members in a road traffic accident at Buffalo Range, in Chiredzi, on Monday.

The two service men died when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a haulage truck.

Private Tatenda Nyambi and Lance Corporal Nehamiah Mauto, both aged 29, were part of the 43 Reserve Force Battalion troops deployed to guard Buffalo Range Airport.

ZNA director Public Relations, Colonel Alphios Makotore said: “The Zimbabwe National Army regrets to announce the tragic death of two soldiers in a road traffic accident that occurred on Monday, 29 November 2021 at Buffalo Range Airport turnoff at around 1600 hours.

“The late soldiers, who were travelling from Chiredzi in their personal vehicle, were hit from behind by a haulage truck on approaching the turnoff to the airport base.

“The truck which was laden with tonnes of sugar, dragged the soldiers’ vehicle off the road for some metres before hitting a tree.”

Colonel Makotore said Lance Corporal Mauto died on the spot while Private Nyambi was pronounced dead on arrival at Chiredzi General Hospital.
