AS the triathlon 2021-2022 season gets underway this Sunday at Mount Pleasant, the national association is hoping to build on their previous successes.

The season runs from September to April.

Triathlon Zimbabwe president, David Ellis, says despite the uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they are optimistic of the new season.

“It will be a season wrought with uncertainty. However, we intend to build on the successes we have achieved over the years and try and make the sport more accessible to a growing number of participants.

“This will also include developing our multisport derivatives of triathlon including duathlon and aquathlon which encourages a unique set of new competitors.

“We also will continue to develop the corporate sector and encourage participation in schools.

“Coaching and technical official training will also be important. We have a good base of coaches and technical officials and we intend to build on this in the upcoming season.

“Most importantly we intend to develop our athletes for participation in key events for the future.

“This will include long term and short term strategies to develop our athlete successes,” said Ellis.

For Sunday’s event, Ellis said they are looking forward to a good turnout.
