The  Herald’s position as the dominant newspaper in Zimbabwe has been reaffirmed when the leading daily yesterday scooped yet another award, the prestigious PMR Country Leaders and Achievers Golden Arrow Award for excellence in print media. The award was in honour of The Herald’s immense contribution to national development.

The country’s biggest daily has been winning all relevant awards, including the 2013 Super Brand of the Year in print media by the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe and the 2013 Brand of the Year at the Megafest National Business Awards, and was also adjudged the best selling newspaper in 2013 by the Zimbabwe All Media and Products Survey.

The paper also won the Print Media Philanthropy Award.
The PMR Country Leaders and Achievers Golden Arrow Award, presented to the newspaper yesterday, is for companies, institutions and individuals that excelled in their industries in 2013 in Southern Africa.

PMR chief executive Mr Johan Hattingh said the awards were rated by a random national sample of 104 respondents comprising chief executives, managing directors, proprietors and directors.

“Category achievers are rated on their contribution to the economic growth and development of Zimbabwe,” said Mr Hattingh.
Herald managing editor Victoria Ruzvidzo, who received the award on behalf of the newspaper, said the accolade was a reflection of the publication’s dominance on the market.

“This award is further endorsement that The Herald is indeed a paper of repute, a solid leader in the market. Our efforts to produce a high quality paper that mirrors our society and offers readers real, progressive and developmental news makes us a paper that most people cannot do without everyday.

“We are very excited indeed and such awards, this one being the fifth in as many months, inspire us to do even better and take our product to the next level by God’s grace.

“We owe this to teamwork and dedication to duty by our reporters and the entire chain in the news production process,” she said.
The Herald acting editor Mabasa Sasa added: “We are naturally pleased. But this also means we must redouble our efforts and work even harder so that we not only maintain this position, but actually improve on the quality of our product so that we serve the nation even better than we are doing now. This is motivation to go to even higher levels of excellence.”

Mbada Diamonds emerged with the Diamond First overall award due to its social responsibility and developmental activities.
The firm’s corporate services executive Mr George Manyaya said, “Economic development is our key prerogative and we consider it our responsibility to the nation. We strive to continuously bring positive development to our country and support the success of the national development agenda as articulated in our Zim-Asset economic blueprint.”

Other companies that emerged as winners in their sectors were radio station ZiFM, Securico Security Services, Seedco, Profeeds, Irvine’s, DHL, Greyhound, Westgate Shopping Mall and Sam Levy’s Village.
