TEAM Zimbabwe have scooped 31 more medals, bringing their tally to 44 comprising 12 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze as they continue to excel at the ninth edition of the Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisations Games. The medals were mostly scooped by the athletics team and Team Zimbabwe have now accumulated 126 points.

Namibia, with 35 medals -15 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze, have 119 points.

Some of Team Zimbabwe’s athletes who scooped the gold medals include Linda Nyamutswa, Roy Zakaria, Charity Manhema, Linient Chipendo and Isaah Mupfayi.

Farai Munago, Connias Mudzingwa, Abel Chimbazaza and Kenneth Chibwana scooped two gold medals in standard relay and the 4x400m relay.

The Zimbabwe women’s soccer team yesterday beat South Africa 4-0 while in tennis, Zimbabwe defeated Zambia and Botswana in the women’s singles.

In chess, Zimbabwe scooped a silver medal and added another one in darts doubles.

Team Zimbabwe are battling it out with 12 other Sadc police teams in the Games which feature seven sporting disciplines – athletics, darts, chess, soccer, netball, volleyball and tennis.

Nearly 200 officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police are participating in the Games which started on July 22 and are scheduled to end on August 2.
