Liberation war hero and prominent Masvingo bus operator Cde Tanda Tavaruva, who died on Monday, was buried at Mangwandi Cemetery here yesterday.

Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister and Zanu PF provincial chair Cde Ezra Chadzamira led mourners in bidding farewell to the late entrepreneur.

Also present at the burial were Zanu PF secretary for production in the Politburo Cde Josaya Hungwe, Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira, Zimbabwe Chiefs’ Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira and Masvingo Mayor Councillor Collins Maboke.

Minister Chadzamira said a funeral parade would have been held at Mucheke Stadium had it not been for the lockdown.

He thanked President Mnangagwa for honouring the late businessman, whom he described as a provincial icon.

“He contributed immensely to economic freedom,” said Cde Chadzamira.

Cde Hungwe, who addressed mourners after a mass at the Roman Catholic Church at the Tavaruva residence in Rhodene, described Cde Tavaruva as a great son of the soil.

“We have lost a great man in this province. He helped us a lot through his transport business and was also a farmer par excellence, but I believe he has been called by the Lord,” he said.
