Suspended Chitungwiza town clerk Dr George Makunde’s hearing has been moved to today after he pleaded for more time. Dr Makunde faces a litany of charges, including poor management. He is on suspension without pay or benefits. Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere suspended Dr Makunde on September 13. Chairperson of the commission running the affairs of Chitungwiza Mr Madzudzo Pawadyira confirmed the postponement last week.

“I can confirm that the hearing for the suspended town clerk, Makunde, which was scheduled for today (Wednesday last week) has been moved to next Monday (today). He requested for more time to prepare for the hearing and decided that Monday next week (today) could be ideal for him. However, an independent team of three people (names not supplied) who include a chairperson and two others will conduct the hearing proceedings. He is facing eight charges and is being represented by his lawyers Ngarava, Moyo and Chikono legal practitioners,” said Mr Pawadyira.

Dr Makunde confirmed requesting for more time.

“Yes it is true, I requested for more time,” he said. “The hearing is on Monday (today).”

Chamber secretary Ms Charity Maunga is the acting town clerk.
