Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death.

There are more causes of suicide in society such as depression, lacking company to share your problems, loneliness in the social lines of life, incomplete decisions, frustrations, bitterness, conflicts, to mention a few.

This negative act has no age, all age groups are victims of suicide.

However, suicide can be avoided if those close to potential victims watch out for some symptoms that usually manifest before one decides to kill herself or himself.

Symptoms such as talking about suicide, buying dangerous weapons such as guns, knives, self-isolation, having mood swings, being preoccupied with death, feeling hopeless, increase in the taking of alcohol and drugs, changing normal routines, doing destructive things, giving away all belongings to other people and saying goodbye to people as if they will not see you again.

Some decades ago, suicide was very low as compared to the present day.

Long back, suicide was highly recorded among adults, mostly those who were married than the youths.

Perhaps adults were the largest number for suicide cases because of marriage conflicts and family disputes.

Nowadays, in both western and African countries, suicide is dominating in the youths than before.

The main reasons which is driving them to such a bad act is that the 21st century generation is now going astray from the old system of life.

This has caused the emergency of other causes of suicide such as having psychiatric disorder, including depression, conflict with close friends and family members, problems with alcohol and drugs, having sexual transmitted infections and or pregnancy and being the victim of bullying.

Due to advancement of technology and globalisation, young people are now doing things in their own modern way and leaving the old system.

When doing things in their way, they do not see the negativity in it until they breed serious haunting situations for life.

They become rebellious to their elders and when they are in trouble sometimes they fail to come and apologies to their parents and move on with life.

Drug takers become addicts and their careers are disturbed, and they become frustrated with life.

It is advisable to check on your close people’s behaviour over issues, their mood and even to know if there are challenges and try to help.

Be it in schools, workplaces and homes, identifying symptoms of suicide and dealing with that earlier is the only best thing we can do.

Helping each other with material things can also reduce suicidal death rates since poverty can be also a cause to pressure of life and result in depression.

Above all, loving one another reduces suicide to a greater extent because it is very easy to notice a change within the person you               love.
