Heavy winds blew off roofs from two classroom blocks at Ivhukuvanhu Primary School in Mberengwa last week, in an incident that left scores of pupils learning in the open.

In an interview, Mberengwa North Ward 2 councillor Justin Mawombera said no one was injured in the incident.

“We are happy that no learner or teacher was injured,” he said.

Clr Mawombera said he had already visited the school together with Mberengwa District Development Coordinator Mr Ndeya Nyede to assess the level of damage caused by the winds.

He said efforts were already underway to source some building materials to repair the classroom blocks.

“We have been to Mataga Business Centre where we have been in meetings to see how we can source material as soon as possible for learners to use the classrooms again,” he said.

“From the assessment we made, I can tell you we need at least 64 zinc roofing sheets, about 12kg of nails, obviously bags of cement and other materials.”

Clr Mawombera appealed for assistance to rebuild the affected classroom blocks so that lessons could be conducted in a proper learning environment.
