VILLAGERS in some parts of Mbire District are in dire in need of food aid following a violent storm which was accompanied by strong winds that destroyed homes and food reserves last week.

Member of National Assembly for Mbire, Cde Douglas Karoro, confirmed the tragic incident, adding that there was urgent need for food aid to the affected families.

“A heavy storm accompanied by strong winds hit many parts of Chidodo and Musengezi Ward Five.

“I visited the area soon after the storm. A number of houses were destroyed. Food reserves were also affected by the rains. The affected households require food aid as a matter of urgency,” said Cde Karoro.

Meanwhile, more than 10 cattle have died in Monozi area from a yet to be diagnosed disease. The disease has also affected several herds.

A villager, Mr Amos Muzeza, said: “More than 10 cattle have died so far in Ward 16 which covers Chitope and Nyamvuu area. We are afraid that we might lose of herd since the diseases is still undiagnosed, yet the deaths are increasing every day.”
