It seems controversy will always find its way to Zim dancehall star Soul Jah Love who on Saturday failed to perform at a show in Mutare. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment show promoter Esau Mupfumi said Soul Jah Love failed to turn up for the event in time then arrived drunk.

“When we signed the contract we agreed that Soul Jah Love was supposed to be in Mutare on Saturday afternoon so that fans will see him but he didn’t come and I called him and he said they were leaving Harare around 6pm,

“I called him around 10pm and he said they were on their way until 2:30 am that is when I was approached by one of his dancers saying they have arrived, I told them to go straight on stage since the fans were waiting for them but he said Soul Jah wasn’t well, hanzi asticker (he was deadly drunk). I went to where he was and saw him flat, I asked his dancers to go on stage so that people see them and know they were there but unfortunately they were chased off stage,” he said.

He said he is not going to ask for the $750 deposit he had paid the musician but would rather ask him to perform on Saturday free of charge alongside Progress Chipfumo.

Speaking through his manager Tafadzwa Brian Mudaiswa, Soul Jah Love confirmed that he failed to perform at Pick and Save in Mutare on Saturday but dismissed allegations that he was drunk.

“You know Jah Love is diabetic, he did not eat in time and he failed to inject himself in time so he collapsed when he was about to go on stage,” he said.

He said they will not be able to perform this Saturday as the promoter had asked them since they had another show on the same day in Chinhoyi.

This is not the first time that the musician has failed to turn up for a show, on several occasions he had left fans disgruntled with the latest one being the one at the Book Cafe when he refused to perform citing poor attendance.

Meanwhile the Mutare fans got some fun out of the night from the opening act by school boy chanter Ras Pompi who gave a good account of himself.
