FOREIGN currency shortages are hampering efforts by small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in Manicaland Province to grow their businesses as most of them are failing to import raw materials for their operations.

Manicaland Chamber of Small to Medium Enterprises (MCSME) board chairman Mr Moses Mwagura said production in the informal sector had significantly gone down, as they were facing challenges in importing raw materials from outside the country.

“Most of our raw materials are imported and we have been facing challenges in getting foreign currency. It is now very expensive to buy forex from banks and even more so to get it from forex dealers.

“This is really affecting our business since our production has been reduced,” Mr Mwagura said.
