Sungura ace Alick Macheso revolutionised the genre, adding sound-enhancement gadgets to guitars as well as coming with unique sounds.

In that light the sungura king inspired several upcoming musicians from the genre to come up with creations that have brought different changes to the genre. It is in that light that Beatrice-based sungura musician Simon Mutambi keeps releasing albums that have different styles.

Mutambi widely viewed as Macheso copycat said his coming album “Makakosha Wani” has his unique style that will give sungura lovers real taste of the genre. Over the weekend the musician announced that he will launch the album at Dugen Farm in Karoi on May 4, making an exciting affair as he launches it away from Harare.

On Saturday he performed at Gatsi Night Club in Chegutu sampling some of the songs to his fans. The album according to Mutambi is a reflection of what people are going through in the society as well as the challenges they are facing in showbiz.

“We have several issues that affect people in every societies we live. It is in that light that we as musicians create our songs,” he said.

His personal experience has also encouraged them to come up with compositions. “Makakosha Wani”, “Ndomene”, “Nherera”, “Simba Nenjere”, “Nzira Yeupenyu” and “Makudo Awanda” are the songs that constitute the six-track album. He said it was important to note that music is dynamic and innovation can only take the industry forward.

“As musicians we should understand that there are several dynamics in this industry and we need to come up with something good for the fans,” he said.

Mutambi released his first album in 2009 titled “Ko Zvinotyisei” followed by “Zvinesimba”, “Ane Nyaya Yake”, “Ko Uripapi”, “Zvese Ndezvako” and “Zviri Pasi”. With these albums, Mutambi did not make much impact, but sungura lovers have appreciated his talent. The musician believes in working hard as well as having collaborations that will help him penetrate other markets.
