Zanu-PF aspiring candidate for Vungu constituency Cde Omega Sibanda has pledged to transform the area into a self-reliant constituency once elected into Parliament. Cde Sibanda said he was capable of fostering development that can transform the rural community for the better, adding that there was need for the establishment of more Vocational Training Centres (VCTs) especially in Somabhula and Maboleni areas.

In an interview after one of his campaign rallies in Maboleni area in Lower Gweru, Cde Sibanda, who is also the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) vice president said, “I have noted with concern that there are few vocational training centres in the constituency.

“Once elected into office I am going to establish two VTCs in Somabhula and Maboleni areas so that local people can acquire different skills at those centres.

“This also means that people will be empowered and can also make a living through the skills acquired.
‘‘Courses such as dressmaking, carpentry, farming, hairdressing, plumbing and building will be the main subjects.”

Cde Sibanda said the construction of a stadium in the constituency was one of his targets as part of community development projects.

The stadium, he said, would be used to develop sports and generate revenue for the Vungu Rural District Council when it is hired by political parties and churches.
“There is also a need for stadium in this area,” he said.

“People have no place that is big enough to hold gathering, be it rallies, constituency meetings, church gatherings and soccer matches. Such facilities will help the Vungu District Council to raise money through rentals.”

Cde Sibanda said Government housing schemes should be extended to the rural areas to address accommodation shortages.
“The Government Housing schemes should also be extended to areas such as Insukamini, Maboleni, and Somabhula in order to ease accommodation crises faced by many people in the constituency,” he said.

Cde Sibanda is being accompanied by incumbent Zanu-PF legislator for Vungu constituency Cde Jospart Madubeko and Zanu-PF members who lost in the primary elections on some of his campaign rallies.

Cde Sibanda will battle it out in Vungu constituency with nine other candidates – Chumu Mark (MDC-T), Dube Junior (PRC), Kona Leonard (ZIPP), Lunga Nimrod (MDC Alliance), Mpofu Ngqabutho (MRP), Ncube Fanuel (APA), Ndlovu Lawrence (Independent), and Ntonisani Maxwell (Zapu).
