Vice President Joyce Mujuru has urged police to shun all forms of corruption and exhibit high levels of discipline and integrity on and off duty.
Speaking at a graduation parade of 546 recruit constables at Morris Depot in Harare today VP Mujuru also urged the public to desist from bribing police.

“As law enforcement agents, police officers should always stand on high moral ground and shun all forms of corruption.
“I urge the Zimbabwe Republic Police to maintain the zero tolerance stance to corruption, and to us the public, we must also stop tempting our disciplined forces by bribing them at any given opportunity such as roadblocks, court cases and crime scenes to name a few examples.

“I wish to call upon all Zimbabweans to rid society of social ills affecting our communities today by adhering to our values of ubuntu/hunhu,” she said.

Vice President Mujuru said she was impressed by the diligence and consciousness to duty exhibited by police during the referendum and the harmonised elections as well as the United Nations World Tourism Organization General Assembly held mid this year.

She said it is laudable that human rights as a subject, has always been an invaluable component of ZRP training curriculum and human development programme saying it was testimony of the organisation’s determination to uphold and respect human dignity at all times.

“I, therefore encourage you to consistently and continuously uphold human rights. Indeed, our new people-driven constitution places value and importance to the upholding of basic human rights as espoused in Section 44 of the supreme law of our country,” she said.

VP Mujuru said Government has allocated a budget of US$161 million to finance the farming input scheme through provision of seed, fertilizer, chemicals and livestock to communal, small scale and A1 farmers imploring the corporate sector and partners to complement Government efforts through rendering support to  A2 and commercial farmers.

She said Government was saddened by the recent heartless and retrogressive acts, not only of poaching, where a large number of elephants were killed at Hwange National Park through cyanide poisoning but also “inhuman acts of rape and violence against women”.

“Some fathers are raping their own daughters. No! What has become of our country? To you the fresh graduands, I say batai munhu!  Stop this insanity forthwith,” she said.
VP Mujuru deplored the continued destruction of the country’s natural resources through veld fires and reckless cutting down of trees.

She said she was gratified to note that ZRP was part of various institutions and individuals that are making a difference through sustained efforts in conserving the environment having planted 3 000 trees since 2009 at Ntabazinduna Training Depot.
A total of 546 police officers comprising of 415 males and 131 female graduated.
