MISS Heritage Ecuador, who arrived in the country last night, expressed her joy at coming to Africa for the first time and is looking forward to taking part in the inaugural Miss Heritage World pageant.

The event is being held from November 29 and culminates in the final on December 7 at Harare’s Rainbow Towers Hotel.

The Ecuadorian beauty, Tatiana Torres (26), commended the hospitality of Zimbabweans who have treated her well since she arrived.

“I believe people should conserve their native religions as well as traditional foods and clothing so that tourists and also future generations may understand their history and heritage,” she said.

She is a seasoned campaigner for the preservation of culture and heritage in her country as well as the empowerment of disadvantaged women and children.

“I believe that tourism can become an effective and sustainable vehicle for linking culture and development by developing a community-based approach,” she said.

Torres also said she promotes eco-tourism in her country by hosting a television programme which encourages visitors to visit natural habitats and eco-friendly nature parks.

She has won several beauty pageants including Miss Ecuador (2009), International Queen of the Pacific (2011), Miss Earth Ecuador (2012) and Miss Heritage Ecuador 2013.

The South American beauty enjoys hiking in natural environments as well as modelling traditionally inspired hats and clothing.

Meanwhile, The winner of the pageant will act as an international Heritage and MDG Ambassador that shall execute duties that go hand in hand with World heritage Tourism and Sustainable Development.
