Show lights up Chibuku neShamwari contest

Several designers converged for the Chibuku Fashion Show that was held at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on Saturday. The show was held concurrently with Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance competition. Designers that include Yvonne Muzembe of Yvonne designs, Lillian Nyoni and Sidumiso Thsuma had an opportunity to showcase their designs.Merrymakers were treated to a lifetime event as models took turns to showcase the designs.
The designed outfits were labelled “Chibuku Neshamwari”.
Muzembe was happy to be part of the event that exposed their talents to the public.
“It is a great honour to be chosen to showcase on such a big event. I was inspired by my mother who has been in the clothing industry for close to 25 years,” she said.
She hailed Delta Beverages through their Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival for granting them a chance to showcase their designs.
Nyoni who is passionate about the way African women dress said the coming of such events was health for fashion designers in the country.
“These shows are good as they expose the works of designers in the country. I am passionate about how African women dress,” she said.
She challenged local designers to come up with designs that put the country on the international map.
“We are Africans and we should come up with dresses that place Zimbabwe on the map with unique designs,” she said.
Tshuma who has featured on several fashion shows in and outside the country said it was good to have fashion shows on such events.
“Neshamwari has gained respect for the past years and for them to give us a chance to showcase our talent is welcome,” he said.
For several years it has been business as usual at the competition with dancers fighting for the top position with the fashion show bringing not only thrilling moments but exposure for the designers.
