A serial armed robber, who had given Kwekwe residents a torrid time, robbing them of cash and cellphones, met his match after he was overpowered by one of his victims.

Livingstone Chirebvu (41) of 7857 Mbizo 4 Extension was overpowered by Sibusiso Solomon (29), who stabbed him with the kitchen knife that he was using to intimidate his victims. Chirebvu was arrested and his case was taken to court where he is facing five counts of armed robbery.

Kwekwe magistrate Storey Rushambwa remanded Chirebvu, who is admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital, in custody to February 19.

Prosecuting, Mr Simba Mubaiwa, alleged that on February 2, 2019, around 10am, Chirebvu pretended to be a woman and started to chat with the complainant via WhatsApp. Later that day around 8pm, he asked to meet Solomon along Maunganidze Road in Mbizo and he agreed.

The two then met and Chirebvu lied to Solomon that he had been sent by the woman to take him to her house.

Chirebvu then led Solomon through a bushy area where he produced a silver kitchen knife and ordered him to surrender all the valuables while threatening to stab him. He searched him and took an LG cellphone and money amounting to $20.

Chirebvu then ordered Solomon to remove his trousers, but he resisted.

Solomon grabbed the knife from Chirebvu and stabbed him once in the rib cage, before fleeing. He made a report at Mbizo Police Station, leading to the arrest of Chirebvu, who was bleeding profusely.
