Afro-jazz music lovers are set for a treat today in Harare as musician Selmor Mtukudzi will be launching a Friday Chill out at the College of Music.

According to Reginald Chapfunga, Selmor’s publicist, the concert will be part of a series of monthly performances following requests from her fans.

“Music diva Selmor Mtukudzi will serenade fans this Friday 31 March 2023 at the College of Music marking the launch of Friday Chill-out with Selmor, a series of monthly concerts,” said Chapfunga.

Chapfunga similar gigs will be conducted twice a month at a regular venue.

He said the upcoming concert would be Selmor’s second performance this year since she jetted from the United Kingdom.

“Friday Chill-out with Selmor is a response to demand by our music fans for a regular venue where we play once or twice every month.

“This is the new home we will chill-out on the last Friday of March and the coming months. This week’s show will be Selmor’s second this year, after her return from the UK,” said Chapfunga.

The gig was also part of interacting with the fans whom they had missed for a space of time in order to keep the fire burning.

“We really missed our music fans. It has been a while now. We are excited to have another chance to sing and dance with them this weekend.

“Fans should look out for one of our best performances, new setup, new choreography. The venue also presents the right ambience to get closer to our audiences, enjoy the music and chill-out,” he said.

The show is set to start at 8pm and end at midnight, with revellers allowed to bring their own drinks.

“The show will start at 8pm running until 12 midnight. Fans are allowed to bring in their cooler boxes at no extra charge.”

Chapfunga also said Selmor will be turning 40 years this year and the concerts were part of a big banquet that will be held in honour of her birthday.

“In the next five months Selmor Mtukudzi will be turning 40. The chill-out shows are part of a bigger program we will be launching soon to celebrate the artist’s life and mark the beginning of her life (Life begins at 40)” he said.
