THE Sables technical team will this weekend not release players for the local league games as they would like to protect them from injuries and make sure that the team stays fresh in camp. With the final round of league games on today before the National Rugby League takes a break, and a few days before the Sables travel to Madagascar for the Africa Cup/ World Cup qualifiers, none of the players will be released.

Yesterday Sables assistant coach Cyprian “Supa” Mandenge told The Herald that none of the players would be allowed to do duty for their clubs.

However, it would not be much of a scare, especially for the traditional giants, as they have fairly easy assignments and this will also be a chance for the coaches to have a look and give game time to the fringe players.

Harare giants Harare Sports Club, Old Georgians and defending champions Old Hararians are in fairly easy encounters in the National Rugby League this weekend.

The Old Boys travel to Mutare where they take on league retainees Mutare Sports Club while Old Georgians will take on Western Panthers in what is a curtain-raiser to Harare Sports Club’s clash against a struggling Gweru Sports Club.

In Bulawayo Busters host city rivals Old Miltonians at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds with all league games scheduled to kick-off at 3.30pm except for the game between Old Georgians and Western Panthers that is billed for 2pm.

Five of Old Miltonians players – Victor Chiwara, Velile Dube, Nelson Madida, Jason Mc Kay and Francis Nakamu – were scheduled to undergo a fitness test late yesterday for them to feature today for OMs.

Fixtures: Old Georgians v Western Panthers (Harare Sports Club 2pm), Harare Sports Club v Gweru Sports Club (Harare Sports Club 3.30pm), Matabeleland Busters v Old Miltonians (Hartsfield 3.30pm), Mutare Sports Club v Old Hararians (Mutare Sports Club 3.30pm).
